ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta is looking to hire an experienced Business Development Manager, to join our growing Development team to advance the development of TransAlta's portfolio in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.

The ideal candidate will foster a stakeholder-driven growth program that ensures TransAlta, and TransAlta Renewables are uniquely and competitively positioned to secure and deliver greenfield growth opportunities. This involves developing and maintaining strong relationships with project and internal stakeholders to ensure greenfield projects progress smoothly through the development life cycle using sound project management practices. The project developer will essentially be the face of the project until it transitions to the execution group (construction).

As the Business Development Manager, you will be focused on the WECC market, primarily the Pacific Northwest but may also work on projects in other regions across the United States. As such, some travel across the United States may be required. You will oversee, evaluate, and execute greenfield investment opportunities that will increase the value of TransAlta's and TransAlta Renewables' common equity and generate superior industry returns in targeted geographies and technologies. A major focus of the position will also be on redevelopment opportunities in alternative technologies at TransAlta's Centralia Coal facility and former coal mining lands.

This is a full-time salaried position. Our preferred location is based at our office in Boulder, Colorado or Centralia, Washington. We would consider candidates who are willing to work remotely from the US but travel would be required to meet the expectations of this position.

    • Accountable for identifying and mitigating enterprise risks as they relate to the projects under development

  • Accountable for developing and implementing budgets and schedules for development projects all the way to the start of construction activities
